Tamaki Intermediates Kapa Haka

On Friday 7th May 2010 a wananga took place at our school. The wananga was organised by one of our teacher’s for the kapa haka group.
At the wananga we were taught how to do long poi, short, poi, rākau and tititorea. We also learnt some new waiata, Māori tikanga and how to clean pots, pans and an oven.
Mātua Rawiri and Mātua Hori compose a lovely waiata that is specifically for our school. One of our amazing leaders Mātua Hori (my teachers brother) taught us how to do the rākau (long sticks) and how to sing in the right tune.
At the wananga we learnt a lot of songs , ate delicious food and slept over night, but our teacher and some other teachers stayed up to watch out for us just in case their was some people walking around our school.
The wananga was fun and the next time we have a wananga I am going to go to it because I just want to learn more new things.
