On Wednesday the year 7s went to Howick Historical Village. When we arrived we had morning tea.
The thing I enjoyed most was going to school in 1850. I enjoyed writing with the ink and putting the pen in the inkwell.
We made bread. The bread was cooked in a wood and coal oven.
We saw a big tree with huge lemons. We saw a rabbit in the cage. We also saw some chickens who poohed on the veranda. After lunch we had free time and we walked around looking at the different house from 1840.

Wananga at Tamaki Intermediate
On the 7th of May Tamaki Intermediate Kapa Haka Roopu had a wananga at Tamaki Intermediate.
At the wananga we practiced some new waiata and we learnt how to use tititorea, the rākau, poi and the long poi.
When we sat down to eat we started off with a karakia and we ate a delicious boil up.
By nine o’clock we went to bed, but sadly we got kept up all night. We were angry the next morning.
Hori taught Moanarangi, Eirina and me how to hold and do the long poi properly. After that Matua taught us the tititoreo and the rākau.
We had sausages with onions and bread for afternoon tea and for dinner we had nachos.
At the wananga I also learnt how to clean a pot, new songs and how to clean an oven!!
We would like to thank our teachers and all the whanau for putting this special occasion together for the kapa haka roopu.

Tamaki Intermediates Kapa Haka

Mātua Rawiri and Mātua Hori compose a lovely waiata that is specifically for our school. One of our amazing leaders Mātua Hori (my teachers brother) taught us how to do the rākau (long sticks) and how to sing in the right tune.
At the wananga we learnt a lot of songs , ate delicious food and slept over night, but our teacher and some other teachers stayed up to watch out for us just in case their was some people walking around our school.
The wananga was fun and the next time we have a wananga I am going to go to it because I just want to learn more new things.

I have chosen to write about my mum because she does everything for me. She takes me places I have never been before. She loves me for me, cares for me and respects me. My mum is a perfect mum who makes yummy delicious food every night and sometimes she will chose to buy tasty food. When I little child my mum would never let me out of her sight. Every time I went shopping with my mum she would always buy me a chocolate. I love my mum so much I think she is the best mum in my world.

I think my godmother deserves an award because she always takes care of me when I am sick or hurt. She always feeds me and helps me with my spelling so I can get them all right. When I am crying she always finds a way to cheer me up like giving me lollies or giving me money. I’m lucky to have a god- mother like her because some other godmothers probably wouldn’t pay attention to their godson or daughter. Every time I go home after school my godmother always has a snack ready for me. My godmother gives me chores to do so I can get paid some money. That’s why I think my godmother deserves an award.

When I was growing up, my leg was painful and my mum would get out baby oil and would massage my l leg. My mum still does that after my rugby games. My mum loves me very much because when I play my mum says ‘’ Play carefully, don’t hurt yourself and play where I can see you ‘’ When I play she cooks food for me because I come back hungry.
